The Endless Cycle We Confuse For Love

I’ve been hurt, considered damaged goods, a piece of me has been taken. How easy it was for me to fall in love before. I was ready to love, ready to get hurt. Ready to put my heart in the hands of someone who didn’t want it. When he refused my love time and time again, when I finally got the courage to leave…he came trotting back into my life, as my saving grace. Allowing me to fall back into the comfortableness of lonely nights, turned off phones, and sitting in my own personal pit of despair.

It wasn’t his fault. Okay, it wasn’t all his fault. I allowed him to treat me the way he did. I allowed him to come back in to my life and drive it back into the ground. He kept me grounded, on a two foot chain, desperately reaching out to him. Only was I rewarded by his presence when he needed something from me. My love, my attention, my praise. Again, it wasn’t all his fault.
